This dynamic seminar will discuss a community arts project with a difference . As part of Shared Territories the Edinburgh Mela artists-residency pARTners programme, Performance Artist Adura Onashile & Community Educator Trina McKendrick developed Boundaries – a walking & performance project exploring trails, stories, identity & belonging, through performance events, film & discussion.
This project was established in collaboration with The Welcoming , an organisation which brings together refugees, asylum seekers & people from Scottish & local minority ethnic communities. Working with groups who had English as an additional language, a distinctive dialogical method evolved, enabling creative encounters in natural environments. Using a range of artistic approaches and materials , participants were able to reflect on the nature of identity and their sense of belonging within Scotland.
An in-depth overview of this project will be presented with an analysis of how this could be incorporated into Scotland’s future as a more integrated society.
THIS EVENT IS FREE OF CHARGE, HOWEVER SPACES ARE LIMITED
