Reaching your destination

Well done! You have reached your destination. Of course personal development never really comes to an end, however if you planned to achieve the Scottish Ranger Award as one of the destinations in your Professional Development journey – you have arrived!

To get to this point in you journey you will have:

  • Planned your journey - where you will have assessed your skills against the Generic and Specialist competencies to identify gaps and planned your CPD
  • Got equipped for the journey – where you will have researched the opportunities for gaining skills and competencies along the way.
  • Embarked on the journey – Where you will followed through you CPD Plan, gaining the competencies you identified in the planning stage.
The Scottish Ranger Award

The Scottish Ranger Award is awarded to those Rangers who have submitted a portfolio that shows they have acquired Levels 1 & 2 in both Generic and Specialist competencies.

Submitting your Portfolio

During the Journey you will have recorded achievement on a CPD Log and discussed this with your line manager at your annual job review. Your line manager will verify achievement of the competencies as you achieve them. This log along with proof of courses attended or documents studied all form part of your Portfolio. When you reached the Level 1 or Level 2 milestones you submitted your CPD Summary along with your Portfolio to the CPD Monitoring Group.

This is not the end of your Professional Development journey – you can continue to achieve further competencies – see The Journey continues. You can also work towards personal development competencies that may not be related to your current job.

Support for others on the Journey

You will have gained valuable experience along the Journey to achieve your Scottish Ranger Award. It is important that you pass this on to others who may be starting on the Journey. Everyone starting the Journey should have a mentor who can offer advice on various aspects of the CPD process.

Please join the mentoring scheme – details can be obtained through SCRA.
