It is with great sadness that SCRA heard of the death of Don Aldridge, whose vision and passion helped to develop the way in which Scotland's Rangers have developed over the years. Ruth Grant has kindly put pen to paper and written an obituary in respect of a life's work that has had profound influences on the work of Rangers throughout Scotland.
"A generation of rangers will be saddened to hear of the sudden death of Don Aldridge on 12 February 2008. Working as Assistant Director of Conservation Education for the Countryside Commission for Scotland (CCS) from 1969 to 1985 Don was instrumental not only in promoting high-quality countryside interpretation but also to how Scotland’s ranger services developed."

SCRA would love to have your memories of Don and, if you have any, pictures that you would be happy for us to show in a small online collection in memory of Don. Please contact us with your stories.
After the publication of the book, which guides people with wheelchairs to some of the best 'walks' and countryside areas in Scotland that are suitable for all users, the Walking on Wheels Trust has now been set up to offer small grants to bodies that meet certain criteria.
